Mr Kenny, Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week we have had a huge focus on phonics across the school. We had Rosie from our phonics scheme (Read, Write, Inc) in school. Rosie worked with a number of children to demonstrate how we can refine our teaching to ensure that children make rapid progress and that learning is long term. At the end of the school day on Thursday we all had an twilight inset session learning how phonics development underpins our reading and writing. As a result after Christmas we will be looking at how our reading books in Keystage1 link closely with the phonics work the children are doing in class.

As you will all be aware, reading is one of our big focuses at Park View Academy. Moving forward we will be looking at a number of strategies in school to encourage your children to read for pleasure. Furthermore, we will be looking at ways to encourage you as parents and carers to read with your children. With the festive time coming up I would encourage you to take time to read a good Christmas book with your child before bed. Support them by putting the iPad or the phone to one side and emerge yourselves in a good story or picture book.

You will all be fully aware that our Christmas Fayre is next Thursday. Doors open shortly after 3.10pm. We have a number of raffles running alongside this and tickets will be drawn on the last day of term. This week we received a signed and certificated Steven Gerrard picture in a frame from the ‘Jamie Carragher23 Foundation’. If you would like a chance to win, tickets will be on sale from Monday.

Please follow us on twitter for all the latest pictures and news.

Have a great weekend,

Mr Kenny, Headteacher
